What to observe first
- Stop the cycle and dry the floor
- Note whether water appears at the door or below the unit
- Clean visible debris from the door gasket
- Confirm the machine is not overfilled with suds
What this symptom may involve
No online checklist can identify the failed part with certainty. Depending on the model and what happens before the failure, a provider may need to inspect:
When the symptom needs service
Call when water comes from beneath the cabinet, the door will not seal, the leak returns or moisture reaches wiring.

Describe the behavior, not a guessed part
Note what still works, what does not, whether the issue is constant or intermittent, and whether an error code appears. Similar symptoms can have different causes.
What to tell the repair provider
Share the appliance type, brand, full model number if available, approximate age, exact symptom, unusual noise or smell, and whether the issue is constant or intermittent. For a leak, describe where and when the water appears.
Repair or replacement?
Compare the diagnosis, appliance age, overall condition, parts availability, repair cost, realistic replacement cost and any installation changes. Repeated failures may change the decision, while an isolated repair can still make sense on an otherwise sound appliance.
Stop using an appliance that smells like burning, sparks, repeatedly trips a breaker, has an uncontrolled gas flame or leaks near electrical connections. For a suspected gas leak, leave the area and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe location.
